Rohan Dennis arrested after wife and former cycling world champion Melissa Hoskins killed in car crash – reports

Rohan Dennis has reportedly been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving after his wife, former world champion Melissa Hoskins, was killed in a car crash.

Hoskins died from her injuries in hospital after the incident in Adelaide’s inner-north on Saturday. She was 32.

“Major Crash officers attended the scene along with detectives from Eastern District CIB to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police said on Sunday.

“Following an investigation, a 33-year-old Medindie man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and endangering life.”

Hoskins won gold in the team pursuit at the 2015 Track Cycling World Championships – breaking the world record in the process – one of five global medals she won across a distinguished career. She also competed twice at the Olympics, narrowly missing out on a medal at London 2012.

She married Dennis in 2018 and the couple had two children together.

CPA Women, the global association of women cyclists, said in a statement: “Shocked by the news of Melissa Hoskins’ death, we send our thoughts to those who love her, starting with her children, and were lucky enough to ride with her during an all too short life.”

Dennis is one of the biggest names on the men’s road circuit, having twice won the world time trial title and clinched stage victories at all three Grand Tours.

He will reportedly appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 13.
