Rolling Stones debut classic song live to kick off new tour
You can’t always get what you want but Rolling Stones fans just got what they needed.
The iconic English band launched their 60th anniversary European tour in Madrid Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano arena where they resurrected their old hit “Out of Time” from the music grave.
The song was recorded in 1966, however, it was never played live. The single was later added to the British version of the Stones’ album “Aftermath.”
“Out of Time” was covered by singer Chris Farlowe that same year, in an edition produced by frontman Mick Jagger.
Following the group’s first stop, they will make their way to 14 other cities on their Euro tour.
Group members Jagger, 78, Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, 75, launched the No Filter tour in 2017 in Germany and played 16 US dates in 2019 but their North American leg was put on hold for 16 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
They resumed the tour in September of last year. “We are thrilled to be able to announce the rescheduled dates for the Rolling Stones 2020 US tour, which will now go ahead this Fall!” the band said in July 2021. “We want to thank you all for your patience during this very difficult and unprecedented time.”
Stones drummer Charlie Watts then passed away in August at 80. The band paid tribute to their late friend at a show at St. Louis’ the Dome at America’s Center.
The trio divulged to the Los Angeles Times last October that Watts recorded some new music before he passed.
“If everything hadn’t gotten closed down, we might’ve finished the damn [album],” Richards said.
Jagger added, “We have a lot of tracks done, so when the tour’s finished we’ll assess where we are with that and continue.”
“Let me put it this way,” Richards chimed in. “You haven’t heard the last of Charlie Watts.”
