As an invitation event, organisers would want the cream of the snooker crop taking part – and the biggest draw card in the sport has confirmed his attendance.

“Big hello to all my snooker fans in Thailand, I am delighted to be coming in March for the 6 Red World Championship in Pathumthani for the first time!!,” O’Sullivan wrote on Twitter.

The full field has been confirmed, with the likes of Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Mark Selby joining O’Sullivan in Bangkok.

The event has not been held since 2019 due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, with Stephen Maguire the defending champion after he beat John Higgins 8-6 in the final.

As the title of the event states, there are six reds on the table at the start of the frame instead of the standard 15 – making for a faster pace of play.

Maximum 147 breaks are not possible, with the big number for the players in this format being 75.

It was first staged as the 6 Red Snooker invitational in 2008 before being renamed the 6 Red World Championship in 2010 – when Mark Selby beat Ricky Walden in the final.

There is a huge snooker following in Thailand, and home favourite Thepchaiya Un-Nooh won the event in 2015.
