Ronnie O’Sullivan tells himself to ‘go home’ after ‘awful shot’ at UK Championship

Ronnie O’Sullivan looked out of sorts during his UK Championship quarter-final with Zhou Yuelong, with one poor shot seeing the seven-time world champion telling himself to “go home”.

“That’s an awful shot,” Alan McManus remarked on Eurosport commentary as the cue ball nestled amongst a cluster of reds, preventing O’Sullivan from continuing his break.

“Argh, go home,” was O’Sullivan’s reaction as he struggled to hatch an escape plan.

Although he recovered, the blip contributed to him losing the frame as Zhou roared back to take a 5-4 lead in the best-of-11 contest.

Still, O’Sullivan has not won 21 Triple Crown titles without showing a fair amount of bottle and he duly steadied himself to come through the last two frames and book a semi-final match with Hossein Vafaei.

‘It was stupidity’ – Vafaei was ‘badly advised’ to taunt O’Sullivan says White

Speaking in the Eurosport studio after the win, O’Sullivan revealed he was still happy to be playing, even if his level wasn’t up to his expected high standards.

“Well I was thinking to myself what else would I be doing? I’m out there, a nice venue, even if I got beat 6-0 it’s not a bad way to spend a Friday afternoon,” he said.

“I’m always thinking what else would I be doing on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday evening when I’m out there, probably not enjoying it, struggling.

“But otherwise I’d be watching X Factor or something, so that’s how I equate it. It can be frustrating out there sometimes and find a way to be like ‘it’s actually alright being here’.”

O’Sullivan will renew his rivalry with Vafaei on Saturday, with the pair last meeting in a spicy showdown at the World Championship in April, which The Rocket won 13-2.
