Roy Wood Jr. eyed for Trevor Noah’s ‘Daily Show’ gig: report

Actor and comedian Roy Wood Jr. could soon find himself sitting behind “The Daily Show” anchor’s desk on a full-time basis following Trevor Noah’s departure.

Noah, 38, announced on Thursday’s episode of the Comedy Central show that he will soon be exiting after seven years.

Executives are now eyeing up potential replacements, and it seems as though one of the top contenders in the running is the 43-year-old comedian, according to TMZ.

Wood Jr. joined the show back in 2015 and has since become one of the show’s leading correspondents.

Sources told the outlet that the comic is currently in demand on the stand-up circuit. His popularity reportedly skyrocketed after he starred in the 2022 film, “Confess, Fletch.”

The comic’s contract is reportedly up for renewal soon, however, TMZ claims Wood Jr. has not been told he is a candidate just yet as the process is still in an “infancy stage.”

It’s also possible that the next host could be a woman, according to the outlet.

The Post has reached out to Comedy Central, Wood Jr., and Noah’s reps for comment.

Announcing his departure from the late-night franchise on Thursday’s episode, Noah reflected on the fact that his anniversary on the show had come up.

“I found myself thinking throughout the time, everything that we’ve gone through … and I realized that after seven years, my time is up,” Noah said.

Noah assumed the show’s anchor desk in 2015 succeeding Jon Stewart, who, in turn, took over in 1999 from Craig Kilborn and helped build the show into a late-night force during his 16-year run.

“After seven years, I feel like it’s time,” Noah continued, describing that he wants to explore other parts of his life and misses “learning other languages, going to other countries and putting on shows and just being everywhere doing everything.”
