Royal fans claim Duchess of Edinburgh scolded Princess Charlotte at Trooping the Colour
It was a royal scolding.
Fans of the royal family claimed that the Duchess of Edinburgh allegedly told Princess Charlotte to “sit down” during the Trooping the Colour ceremony — which celebrates the official birthday of King Charles III — after a video of the senior royal went viral on Twitter Saturday.
In the 5-second video, Princess Charlotte, 8, and her great-aunt, Sophie, 58, can be seen watching the Horse Guards Parade when the young royal turns and asks her aunt a question.
The Duchess then turns to face Charlotte and mutters something that causes the princess to quickly look away.
Several online viewers of the interaction later claimed that the elder royal snapped at the seemingly bored Charlotte.
“So is Sophie telling Charlotte ‘it’s now’ or to ‘sit down’,” tweeted one confused fan. “Personally, I think it’s ‘sit down’, judging by Charlotte’s reaction. But she doesn’t sit down!”
“Sophie told Charlotte to sit down,” joked one user. “Must have needed to go to the bathroom!’
“Love how Charlotte is getting told off here and to ‘Sit down,’”snickered a third person.
However, other social media users claim that the Duchess didn’t scold her great-granddaughter, but simply remarked on the festivities.
“She’s not being told off or told to sit down,” claimed one user. “Suspect she’s asked a question a few times and been told ‘It’s now.’”
“Just in case you were wondering, I’m not quite sure exactly what Charlotte said, but Sophie definitely said ‘it is loud,’” said a second person.
“I think The Duchess of Edinburgh is saying ‘it’s loud’. There again, I’m not a lip reader,” justified a third commenter. “Therefore, the duchess could be saying several things that look similar. If the duchess IS saying ‘Sit down’, she probably had good reason to do so.”
Speaking with the Daily Star, professional lip reader Jeremy Freeman also stated that the senior royal was not telling the Princess of Wales off.
According to the lip reader, Charlotte was asking “how long will it be” to which Sophie replied, “I think it’s now.”
The young princess was not the only one stealing the spotlight during the festivital.
Prince Louis, 5, entertained crowds with his animated face and at one point held his nose and grimaced.
This isn’t the first time Louis has become the star of the show with his playful behavior.
Last year during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Louis’ stunts were a welcome distraction for audiences at home.
And at Charles’ coronation last month, Louis stole the limelight while letting out a few yawns during the ceremony.
Also notably absent from the parade, were Prince Harry and Meghan Markel who were reportedly not invited by King Charles III, 74, amid the Duke of Sussex’s lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers.
Tension within the family is at an all-time high as discussions of stripping the Duke and Duchess of their titles have allegedly taken place.
