Rudy Farias reunites with aunt, doesn’t want to be near his mom: relative
Houston man Rudy Farias is no longer staying with his mother and told relatives he no longer wants to be near her after she allegedly hid him for eight years while he was presumed to be missing, his aunt told The Post.
Pauline Sanchez Rodriguez was reunited with her “scared” and “traumatized” 25-year-old nephew Thursday after the young man’s mother dropped him off at the home of a former co-worker last night without additional clothes or other belongings.
Farias’ bizarre “disappearance” has taken several turns since he was spotted slumped over outside a church last Thursday after he was reported missing in 2015 when he was 17.
“My son was able to see him. I was able to see him. All that matters is his safety; he’s comfortable,” Rodriguez explained. “He did state, he made the statement that he doesn’t want to see his mom. He doesn’t want to go back to his mom.”
Farias’ mom, Janie Santana, has tried to call the home where her son is staying, but he refuses to talk to her, Rodriguez said.
Santana’s current whereabouts are unknown.
Farias’ departure from his mom came a day after explosive claims were lodged against Santana, alleging she subjected her son to abuse that included asking him to “play daddy” and to be “her husband” while also giving him drugs and lying to him about what could happen if he revealed he never really vanished.
Houston police said Thursday Santana hid her son at home and would refer to him as her “nephew” if they were seen publicly. She even duped police over the years as authorities defended their handling of the case.
But Santana remains free for now as authorities continue to probe the astonishing case. The Harris County District Attorney’s office has declined to charge Santana so far because the office lacks probable cause, officials said.
Rodriguez said Thursday she has not spoken to Farias about what happened to him while he was with his mother.
“I didn’t ask him. It’s not a good time right now. It’s not a good time,” she said.
“Mentality, he needs to focus on getting well. He’s scared. He’s having scared moments right now. He’s going to be very cautious who he talks to.”
Rodriguez said she believes claims from community activist Quanell X that Farias told him and authorities he was sexually abused.
“Rudy is not a young man that’s going to lie. He wasn’t raised that way,” she insisted. “I know he was manipulated into not saying things for so long. If Rudy told Mr. X what in reality happened, everybody has to believe that story.”
But police have said Farias did not report any abuse to them during Wednesday’s interview.
She noted Farias had cuts on his forearms and suspected they were self-inflicted “because he couldn’t deal with his reality anymore.”
Rodriguez, who slammed her sister earlier Thursday, had more stinging work for her.
“(Janie), if you are out there and you’re listening— no matter what, we’re blood. Get the help that you need. Come forward and acknowledge that you need help.”
It appears Farias will remain at the home he’s currently at, for now, but Rodriguez guessed he’ll eventually move in with her son, Farias’ cousin.
“My nephew feels safe and this is where he’ll be until he decides to move forward with someone from the family,” she said. “That somebody I really believe is going to be my son.”
“I’m not going to force my baby boy, my nephew, to leave right away. He’s traumatized,” Rodriguez added.
