‘Rust’ lawyers were on set before cops after Haylna Hutchins shooting: prosecutor

The production company behind Alec Baldwin’s doomed Western ‘Rust’ allegedly had lawyers questioning witnesses ahead of police following the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins, a New Mexico prosecutor alleged during a hearing Friday.

Rust Movie Productions LLC had its lawyers questioning those who saw Baldwin fatally shoot Hutchins mid-rehearsal on Oct. 21, 2021 within just “30 to 60 minutes” of the incident, prosecutor Kari Morrissey claimed at the brief proceeding.

The lawyers were at the scene so quickly that they talked with the witnesses on the Sante Fe shooting location before law enforcement, Morrissey claimed.

As well as starring the movie, Baldwin is also a producer and co-wrote the western’s storyline.

Alec Baldwin could be charged again in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins after a new gun analysis report cast doubt on his account of the tragedy.

The trigger of the gun that killed Hutchins was in fact pulled, a new analysis revealed.

Morrissey’s comments came as part of her argument that Rust Movie Productions, which is now defunct, has “obstructed” the ongoing criminal investigation into Hutchins’ death – which is now mostly concentrated on the charges against armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.

At Friday’s hearing, production lawyer Abigail Wolberg argued a motion to quash a subpoena ordering the company to produce written agreements with Baldwin.

The 65-year-old actor was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter alongside Gutierrez-Reed.

The criminal case against him was dropped in April, although prosecutors have warned they could refile.

It’s unclear who exactly is involved in Rust Movie Productions. Baldwin’s production credit for the movie was through his El Dorado Pictures company, according Deadline.

However, we will soon find out as Judge Marlowe Sommer denied Wolberg’s motion – and ordered Rust Movie Productions to provide the relevant documents by end of day on Friday, Oct. 20.
