Sam Kerr sizzles with brilliant hat-trick as Chelsea beat Liverpool in FA Cup, Arsenal hit Leeds for 9

Sam Kerr was at her sizzling best, as the Australia forward netted a hat-trick to help Chelsea sink Liverpool 3-2 in the Women’s FA Cup.

In what was the tie of the fourth round, Chelsea got the better of a tight affair at Kingsmeadow.

There was no repeat of a week ago, when Chelsea’s game against the same opposition was abandoned after six minutes due to a frozen pitch.

With the pitch fit for play, Kerr set about her business with a spectacular goal on 32 minutes.

The Australian slipped her marker and unleashed a superb volley from Niamh Charles’ fine cross.

Kerr was at it again at the start of the second half, collecting a precision pass from Fran Kirby before slotting home on 52 minutes.

Liverpool cut the deficit through Ceri Holland just after the hour mark with a brilliant finish.

Kerr restored Chelsea’s cushion with a header on 79 minutes and although Gemma Bonner set up a grandstand finish with a goal for the Reds on 85 minutes, Chelsea held on.

Manchester United are top of the Women’s Super League, and their dreams of the Double are alive following a nervy 2-1 win at Sunderland. Nikita Parris was the star turn with both goals.

There were a number of big wins in the fourth round on Sunday, with Aston Villa the most dominant. Rachel Daly helped herself to four goals in an 11-0 win over Fylde.

Eight different players found their way onto the scoresheet as Arsenal thumped Leeds 9-0, while Brighton beat West Brom 7-0.

Khadija Shaw grabbed a hat-trick as Manchester City eased to a 7-0 win over Sheffield United, while Tottenham beat London City 5-0.

Birmingham pulled off the day’s big shock, with Jade Pennock grabbing the only goal to down WSL side Everton.

Pirelli Stadium witnessed the most dramatic scenes of the day, as Reading beat fellow WSL side Leicester on a penalty shootout.
