School bus crash sends 30 Idaho summer camp kids to hospital
Seven children were critically hurt after a school bus crashed and overturned in Idaho, authorities said.
The scary incident happened north of Boise, as the bus packed with YMCA campers traveled State Highway 55 near the town of Banks Friday afternoon, Idaho State Police said.
The 30 passengers from the Treasure Valley YMCA ranged in age from 13 to 18 and all were taken to the hospital by airlift “out of an abundance of caution,” police said in a news release.
In all, 11 kids were hurt.
Police said the cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated.
The bus was returning from the Horsethief Reservoir when it crashed, according to KTVB.
The crash is “one of those things you never want to see happen,” YMCA Treasure Valley President David Duro told the news station, adding that the YMCA was trying to reunite all of the kids with their parents.
The bus was one of four used by the summer camp program.
“Idahoans are praying for the victims of the school bus crash near Banks,” Idaho Gov. Brad Little tweeted on Friday.
“We are thankful for the first responders and medical personnel assisting in this tragedy.”
