Scottish Open snooker: Jimmy White wins black-ball thriller to reach last 32 in midnight drama, Mark Selby edges through
Jimmy ‘Whirlwind’ White produced his best performance of the season so far to complete a dramatic 4-3 win over Jimmy Robertson on the final black to reach the last 32 of the Scottish Open in Edinburgh.
Former European Masters champion Robertson made the two highest breaks of the match with efforts of 55 and 78, but it was six-time world finalist White who progressed by winning the final two frames after midnight on Tuesday at the Meadowbank Sports Centre.
He will next face Jamie Jones or Dominic Dale – who meet in an all-Welsh clash on Wednesday – for a last-16 spot on Thursday.
Former Scottish Open winner Mark Selby was also involved in a late-night decider as he edged out two-time world finalist Matthew Stevens 4-3 to secure a third-round clash with Matthew Selt on Wednesday evening.
The four-time world champion finished with a break of 64 after earlier running in 115, 64 and 63 with Stevens producing 90 in the third frame.
The 19-year-old reeled off four straight frames from trailing 2-0 to set up a last-32 meeting with Sanderson Lam on Wednesday night.

But former British Open champion Ryan Day is out and will not be playing at the World Grand Prix next month after losing 4-3 to world No. 81 Ashley Carty.
Day needed a run to the last 16 to keep alive his hopes of qualifying for the prestigious Grand Prix event involving the top 32 on the one-year list, but remains in 42nd place after tumbling out in the second round.
