Sen. Tim Scott teases ‘major announcement’ after report of a major White House step

Sen. Tim Scott revealed on Tuesday that he will make “a major announcement tomorrow,” the same day that the lawmaker reportedly plans to launch his presidential exploratory committee.

“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking the past few months,” Scott (R-SC) wrote in an email to supporters on Tuesday.

“I’ve been thinking about my faith. I’ve been thinking about the future of our country. And I’ve been thinking about the Left’s plan to ruin America. From all this and through self reflection and prayer, I’ve decided to make a major announcement tomorrow,” he added.

The message directs supporters to donate to his Senate campaign and to watch “Fox & Friends,” Wednesday at 8:40 a.m., where he will make the announcement.

The Post and Courier reported on Tuesday that Scott, 57, plans to launch a presidential exploratory committee on Wednesday, as well travel to Iowa – the first state in the 2024 GOP presidential nominating contest.

The formal committee would allow the South Carolina Republican to raise money that could be used for a potential 2024 presidential campaign, as well as gauge donor interest in his candidacy.

Funds donated to the exploratory committee can also be used by Scott to cover expenses for polling and travel to early primary states as he weighs officially filing his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

If he decides to run, Scott will join a fellow South Carolinian, former Gov. Nikki Haley, in a growing 2024 GOP field that also includes former President Donald Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Scott will travel to New Hampshire on Thursday, according to the Post and Courier, and return to the Palmetto State on Friday to meet with voters in Goose Creek before his Faith in America Summit, which will be held in Charleston that night and Saturday.

The most recent 2024 polls peg Scott well below the GOP’s 2024 frontrunners – Trump and Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

A March CNN/SSRS survey of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents found Scott receiving only 2% support, equaling New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, but ahead of Hutchinson, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

However, Scott trailed Trump and DeSantis, who respectively garnered 40% and 36% support, as well as Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence, who both received 6% support.
