Sequels dominate the box office, as ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ earns $8.8M Friday

Film buffs on Friday secured back-to-back box office wins for the latest installment in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, with the second “Dune” film putting up a strong second-place showing.

As it did last week, “Kung Fu Panda 4” land in the top spot, taking in $8.8 million in ticket receipts, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.. Domestically, the film’s made more than $86.5 million in its first two weeks in theaters.

The Post said that Jack Black-helmed feature, “while nice enough, suggests that the smartest move would be to let the fuzzy guy retire to a calming bamboo forest rather than embark on yet another predictable adventure.”

“Dune: Part Two” — director Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi desert flick — managed to hold onto the #2 spot during its third week of release, taking in $8.15 million.

“Arthur the King” on Friday sold more than $3 million in tickets, nabbing the No. 3 slot, and is anticipated to make another $4 million before Sunday’s over. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a mountain climber who’s joined by a stray dog during a 435-mile trek through the Dominican Republic. 

“Imaginary,” a supernatural horror film about a possessed teddy bear, finished in fourth, generating $1.7 million in sales.

Kristen Stewart’s bodybuilding romance “Love Lies Bleeding” followed in fifth, netting $1.1 million during its first day in wide distribution, after a limited release last week.
