Shoot Out Snooker 2023 LIVE: Shaun Murphy back after 147 heroics, Mark Allen also on early, Chris Wakelin later
Result! – YOUNG 41-28 LIU
Liu can’t conjure up a special shot to wrestle the momentum his way and it’s Young who develops that lead further with an excellent red up to the green pocket and a brown to the same bag.
There’s less than a minute to go with four reds awkwardly positioned. You sense it will be curtains for Liu here… and although he knocks in a couple of balls at the death he ultimately runs out of time.
Next up, it’s Elliot Slessor v Oliver Sykes.
YOUNG 28-20 LIU
A red to bottom right and a pink to the other corner sets Dean off on his way to a slight lead as he fails to make the most of a good situation.
It’s a strange old table with the majority of the reds up near baulk.
YOUNG 5-20 LIU
What a shot that is! Liu cannons into two reds and one flies into the yellow pocket. It’s a fluke, but it actually works against him and he ends up fouling.
It’s ball in hand and a big opportunity for Young now.
YOUNG 0-19 LIU
Liu sizzles a long red down the right rail to the corner bag to earn some cheers of approval from the crowd and get off to a flyer.
A blue to middle is followed by a simple red to the bottom right and he continues to make use of the blue before a mid-range red on the stretch comes back off the jaws of the bottom right pocket.
Next up…
It’s the 13-year-old Shaun Liu against Scotland’s Dean Young.
Result! – MURPHY 44-46 DALE
Shaun misses a tough cut on the final red to the bottom left corner via the rest and there is just 10 seconds left… and that’s it, it’s all over.
A 147 yesterday, but The Magician will be performing a disappearing act today.
MURPHY 44-46 DALE
A shot for nothing on a far from routine red suddenly turns the tables and it’s Dale eating into Shaun’s lead.
A red along the bottom rail is followed by a black that puts him in charge with one red left.
There’s one minute to go!
MURPHY 44-9 DALE
Shaun works his way in and is soon potting red-pink, red-black combos to surge away. The balls are well spread for him to finish it from here, but he runs out of position and has to play safe with just over three minutes to go.
MURPHY 1-9 DALE
Dom breaks the impasse as Shaun leaves a red hovering over the right corner pocket. He produces another fine cut on the brown up to the green pocket via the rest but the table isn’t too inviting and he has to play safe with a run of nine.
MURPHY 1-0 DALE
Shaun is full of confidence and opens with an explosive long pot before opting for safety with a flick off the green into baulk.
Here we go!
First up, it’s Dominic Dale v Shaun Murphy; The Spaceman against The Magician who has already told Eurosport 1 that there will not be another 147 from him today!

‘Can’t believe what’s just happened’ – Murphy makes history with 147 in Shoot Out
Shaun Murphy created Snooker Shoot Out history when he produced a magical 147, the first maximum to be recorded in the competition.
The Magician treated the fans to a mesmerising display at the Swansea Arena in a first-round victory over Hungarian teenager Bulcsu Revesz, clearing the table with well over two minutes in the match still remaining.
Revesz made the cardinal sin of hitting the blue from his break, and it proved to be his only shot of the match.
Murphy started confidently and began to put away red-black combinations in rapid fashion, indicating the feat could be on. As he edged closer, and perhaps to help ease his nerves, with the break at 81, Murphy turned to the crowd and said: “Is anyone getting nervous?”
He took a moment to compose himself before getting back among the balls and sweeping them aside with relative ease.
“And he’s done it,” Eurosport commentator Tim Peters said.
“A phenomenal achievement, a fantastic break in these circumstances,” said Fergal O’Brien.
O’Sullivan v Murphy: Which magical 147 break was better?
Ronnie O’Sullivan produced the undisputed greatest 147 break of all time at the 1997 World Championship, but our man Des Kane ponders if the snooker GOAT finally have a viable challenger 26 years later after Murphy’s magic?
