Shooter at Ohio Walmart near Dayton injures four before turning gun on himself: police

Four people were injured after a gunman opened fire in a Dayton, Ohio, area Walmart before killing himself on Monday night, authorities said.

The suspected shooter walked into the Walmart in Beavercreek at around 8:30 p.m. and began firing at those inside the store, according to the Beavercreek Police Department.

Authorities said the four victims were transported to area hospitals, and their conditions are unknown.

The shooter has died from an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the department.

“No shots were fired by any responding police officers,” the department wrote in a statement on X.

The building was cleared and secured, and “there is no active threat.”

Police said the shooter was a male but did not reveal his identity as they continued their investigation.

Further details are expected to be released on Tuesday.

“I thought it was glass at first. I heard a couple people running and screaming so I darted out and we got to the Burger King parking lot,” one unidentified Walmart worker told the Dayton Daily News.

Walmart said they were “heartbroken” by what happened at their Beavercreek location.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting local police with the investigation.

“This remains a developing situation, and we’re working closely with investigators on the scene,” Walmart corporate said in a statement to the outlet.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the FBI are assisting with the investigation, the department said.

Beavercreek is a city of about 46,000 people about 9 miles east of Dayton.
