Shoppers baffled by ultra tiny Shein bikini: ‘Why bother?’

A swimsuit from Shein has left social media users and shoppers baffled, with many wondering why one would even “bother” wearing it.

TikTok user @stacymurf drew attention to the latest offering from the fast fashion giant – infamous for its cheap and often controversial designs – which leaves little to the imagination.

The $5.95 bikini features two tiny strips of material that cover the chest, and is attached to string that then runs down the torso and connects to another strip of fabric to cover the wearer’s bottom.

“So I was on Shein and do you want to see the most terrifying bikini I’ve ever seen in my life?” Stacy said in her video.

“As a fat girl I would be terrified to wear this. But even as a skinny girl, if I was skinny like [the model] … I would be terrified of everything falling out everywhere.”

She added that she’d “need a prayer” and “probably super glue to make extra sure” she didn’t suffer a wardrobe malfunction.

She wasn’t the only person confused by the swimsuit, with other users on the platform commenting on her video that “one wrong move and boom everyone’s seeing everything”.

“Girl I AM skinny like that and I’m horrified,” one wrote.

“The bra part would have to be stuck to her boobs to avoid a nip slip,” said another.

While a third added: “Why bother? It’s literally strings.”

Not everyone agreed, however; the product has gained 4.5 stars on the Shein website, with over 900 reviews.

“I am a large there was only a small available it worked out kind of small on the boob area but hey still looks good,” one wrote.

“Love the plaid material. Makes me feel so sexy,” another reviewer said.

The Shein swimsuit probably isn’t the first choice for most shoppers, but the style doesn’t fall that far from many designs at Miami Swim Week earlier this year.

The five-day event saw the return of duct tape bikinis and introduced an even smaller version of the “loincloth” bikini, as well as one white mesh cossie that was completely see-through at the back.
