Skydiver who died after hard landing on Florida front lawn identified as 69-year-old lawyer

The skydiver who died over the weekend after landing on a Florida front lawn in front of shocked residents has been identified as a 69-year-old lawyer.

According to police, Frederick Morello, of Ormond Beach, perished after slamming into the ground in Titusville around 12:30 pm Saturday afternoon.

Morello, who graduated from Georgetown Law School and worked as an employment lawyer based in Daytona Beach, was an experienced skydiver who posted pictures of himself leaping out of planes on his website.

In a section entitled “Fred’s Passion,” the attorney alluded to his thrill-seeking nature.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away,” reads a quote on the page, followed by dozens of images of himself skydiving.

James Sconiers told WKMG that Morello landed directly in his front yard.

“I was asking the person that was laying on the ground, ‘Hey man can you hear me, can you hear me?’ But he did not answer,” Sconiers told the station.

He told a local Fox affiliate that Morello bounced off the ground “like a basketball” before coming to a rest.

Other witnesses said Morello’s parachute had been fully deployed before impact — but that he still landed at a high rate of speed.

One resident said Morello’s corpse was in a grisly state.

“I work in the medical field,” Nicole Lacount told WKMG. “That’s the worst I’ve ever seen.”

The Skydive Space Center — located blocks from the scene — declined to comment if Morello had used their services before the crash.

But the attorney appears to have skydived with them from the same departure point in the past.

The pictures on Morello’s website show him engaged in his hobby in several different locations — including Austin and Ukraine.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, according to police.
