‘sMothered’ casts first transgender daughter, who tells pushy mom she’s ‘not a project’
Mother knows best.
In a first for TLC’s hit reality series “sMothered,” which follows overly close mothers and daughters, one of the featured pairs in the upcoming fourth season includes a transgender daughter. Shay and Angie are attached at the hip and have only grown closer as Shay has come out as transgender — and her mom has supported her journey.
In an exclusive trailer, Angie can be seen showing Shay how to shave her legs, explaining, “It’s one of your first lessons in becoming a woman.” However, this bond includes Angie pushing hard to manage Shay’s weight loss journey as well, which causes problems, as a frustrated Shay exclaims to her mom, “I’m not a project!”
The new season, premiering at 9 p.m. on Aug. 8, also includes two other new mom-daughter pairings: Paula and Francia — who dance, party and sleep in their birthday suits together — and Ashley and Cathy, who get chin lifts, nipple piercings, tattoos and do boudoir photo shoots together — and have even dated the same man in the past.
There are also several pairs returning from previous seasons of “sMothered,” which is co-produced by The Post, including Cher and Dawn, who dress alike and are now pole dancing together; Cristina and Kathy, who are neighbors and spend all of their time together; Sunhe and Angelica, who share bathwater; and Lauren and Lisa, who have sleepovers and video chats from the bath.
Season 4 of “Smothered” will premiere at 9 p.m. on Aug. 8 on TLC and will also stream on discovery+.
