‘SNL’ sends love to Dana Carvey after son Dex’s death

“Saturday Night Live” alumnus Dana Carvey and his wife, Paula Zwagerman, are thanking well-wishers after their eldest son, Dex, died last week at the age of 32.

“Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost held up a sign that read, “We love you Dana and Paula,” to support the couple at the end of Saturday’s “SNL” episode, which was hosted by Jason Momoa.

Dex died from an accidental drug overdose on Nov. 15. He was reportedly discovered unresponsive in the bathroom of a Los Angeles home by his girlfriend, Kaylee Chen. He was pronounced dead around 10 p.m.

Overwhelmed by the love and support from family, friends and fans, Carvey, 68, shared a message of gratitude on Saturday.

“This is just to say thank you,” he posted on Instagram and X. “We received so many beautiful messages from people who knew Dex. These touched us more than we could ever express in words.”

The “Wayne’s World” star revealed he will be stepping away from comedy to focus on his family and grieve his son.

“I will be taking a break from work and social media — trying to figure out what life looks like now that we are a family of 3,” Carvey wrote. “We will heal the best we can and carry on. Our darling Dex would have wanted it that way.”

Carvey, who has another son, Thomas, 30, signed off the post with “Much Love, Dana.”

Dex followed in his father’s footsteps as an aspiring comedian. He opened for Dana’s 2016 Netflix special “Straight White Male, 60” and appeared in the short film “Carpool Pandering,” directed by F. Clint DeNisco, opposite Dana.

Carvey shared news of his son’s death on Nov. 16.

“Last night, we suffered a terrible tragedy,” Carvey wrote on Instagram. “Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, filmmaking, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.”
