Sofía Vergara reveals why she, Joe Manganiello split
Two different timelines.
Sofia Vergara has finally revealed what led to her split from ex-husband Joe Manganiello.
In an interview with Spanish outlet El País, the “Modern Family” star said that Manganiello, 47, wanted to expand their family, but Vergara was not interested in having more children.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara, 51, told the outlet. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby.”
She added: “I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”
The “Griselda” alum, who already shares a 32-year-old son with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez, added that she was ready for the next phase of her life.
“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” Vergara continued. “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.”
“I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things,” she added. “When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
The “True Blood” alum and Vergara released a statement in July 2023 announcing that they had made “the difficult decision” to divorce after seven years of marriage.
“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” they wrote.
A source close to the pair told Page Six that “Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future.”
Two days after issuing the joint statement, the “Magic Mike” star filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Manganiello has since moved on from the breakup.
Manganiello and his new girlfriend, Caitlin O’Connor, 33, made their red carpet debut during the Children of Armenia Fund Gala in New York City in December 2023.
Vergara, meanwhile, said she’s “single now” during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last week.
In a recent interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” the “Chef” star revealed that she was surprised by the press’ accuracy when reporting about her divorce.
“It wasn’t bad,” she said. “I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is.”
