Sophia Loren has emergency surgery after falling at Swiss home
Sophia Loren has undergone emergency surgery after a fall at her home.
The actor, 89, was left with multiple fractures to her hip and leg after falling at her home in Geneva, Switzerland, over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Sunday in the bathroom of her residence. She suffered several fractures, including to her femur and hip.
Loren’s condition was also revealed via her Instagram page for her restaurant chain on Sunday.
“A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures. Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation,” read the post.
The “Life Ahead” actress was set to open a fourth restaurant in the Italian city of Bari on Sept. 26.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Loren’s sons Carlo Jr., 54, and Edoardo, 50, have been by her side during the ordeal.
The “Life Ahead” actress was set to open a fourth restaurant in the Italian city of Bari on Sept. 26, before her incident. She was also set to receive honorary citizenship from the city, but any future engagements have been canceled for now.
Loren’s last public appearance was during the 80th Venice Film Festival when she attended the Armani fashion show on Sept. 2.
