Speedway Grand Prix: Tai Woffinden out of final round of action in Torun, Kai Huckenbeck drafted in as replacement

Tai Woffinden has been ruled out of the final FIM Speedway Grand Prix race of the season in Torun.

Woffinden suffered a broken hand following a crash at the British Grand Prix in Cardiff earlier this month and missed the most recent meeting in Vojens, Denmark on September 16.

The British rider made his return to action for his club Wroclaw in their PGE Ekstraliga play-off final decider at home to Lublin.

However, the 33-year-old’s misfortune continued as he suffered another crash which will see him miss the final round of SGP action.

Woffinden will be replaced in the line-up in Poland by German rider Kai Huckenbeck.

Huckenbeck makes his third appearance of the season having deputised in Vojens and featuring as a wild card in his home race in Teterow.

Three-time world champion Woffinden has endured a difficult season in the Speedway GP, reaching his sole final in Riga ahead of the disappointment in Cardiff.

He currently sits in tenth place in the standings and would have been unable to secure a top-six finish even with a win in Torun.

Woffinden is not the only rider set to miss the final round with Poland’s Maciej Janowski out of action with a broken ankle and Danish star Anders Thomsen continuing to recover from a hand injury of his own.

They will be replaced by Latvia’s Andzejs Lebedevs and Czech racer Jan Kvech.
