Spurs to make late transfer deadline play for Conor Gallagher, Miguel Almiron staying at Newcastle – Paper Round
Spurs want Gallagher
Tottenham could make a late move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher before the deadline on February 1, according to The Times. Spurs had attempted to sign the England international in the summer but were unwilling to pay the £50m asking price.
Now, however, Spurs may find their chances of agreeing a fee are possibly with Chelsea willing to sell their academy graduate to help comply with FFP rules.
“Under Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher has been a key cog for Chelsea this season and has captained the side on occasion.”
Almiron staying at Newcastle
Miguel Almiron is set to stay at Newcastle beyond this month after Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab failed to reach their asking price for the Paraguayan, the Guardian reports. Like Chelsea above, Newcastle are looking to sell players for FFP reasons, and that has led to a number of star players being linked with a move away this month.
That includes Almiron, 29, but with Al-Shabab unwilling to meet the £30m fee Newcastle want, having seed a £17m deal rejected last week, it appears the Saudi side will turn their attentions elsewhere.
Late move for Broja?
Fulham or Wolves could yet reach an agreement with Chelsea for striker Armando Broja before the January transfer window ends, the Standard reports. Chelsea are after a new No 9, and while they could wait to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer, be it this window or the next the Blues will need to raise funds.
Chelsea want £50m for Broja, although both Wolves and Fulham are reluctant to pay that amount, hoping a figure below £35m could tempt Chelsea into negotiations. Any move would likely be a loan with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.
“The Blues are ready to offload him this month without securing an immediate replacement. Chelsea could wait until the summer before bringing in a top-level striker, with Victor Osimhen ready to leave Napoli this summer and open to a move to Stamford Bridge.
“Alternative targets including Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson have also been discussed, with Osimhen being considered as an option to replace Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain if he moves to Real Madrid.”
Granada back in for Pellistri
Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri looks set to join Granada on loan ahead of Thursday’s deadline, the Manchester Evening News reports. Pellistri was hoping to secure a transfer amid fears he would remain at United for the rest of the season.
The 22-year-old was an used sub against Newport on Sunday, but his spell on the bench looks set to end.
“Ten Hag has favoured Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford as the wingers to support striker Rasmus Hojlund in recent weeks. Antony scored his first goal since April at Newport and Amad made his first appearance for the club in more than two years against Nottingham Forest on December 30.
“Pellistri has not started for United since September and he has already spent two loan spells in Spain with Alaves. He was planning to head out on loan again in the summer but injury to Amad during pre-season scuppered a move.”
