Stars leading support for Israel in the war against Hamas

Gal Gadot and Mark Hamill are among the celebrities who have spoken out in support of Israel in its war with Hamas, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on the organization Sunday.

This declaration followed the Hamas terrorist attacks on Saturday, which have been called the largest escalation in the region in five decades. 

The attacks resulted in more than 600 fatalities among Israeli civilians and in an unknown number of Israelis being taken hostage by Hamas. Additionally, at least four Americans were confirmed dead. Over 313 Palestinians are reported dead and 1,990 are reported missing, with 20 Palestinian children killed and 121 injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Here are the celebrities who have taken to social media following the terror attack:

Florence Pugh

The “Don’t Worry Darling” and “Black Widow” star, 27, posted a message in her Instagram story that she credited as originally coming from Jordan C. Brown. The message reads: “It is absolutely reasonable and logical to be opposed to the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY calling for the protection of Jews in Israel and around the world. Hamas is a terrorist organization that is attacking civilians by land, air, and sea. The images of kidnapped Israelis are shocking and devastating. Given the thousands of years of persecution of Jews, please know that your Jewish friends — even if they are not in Israel — are hurting and fearful when things like this happen and non-Jews are silent. I understand that many of us are afraid to voice an opinion because the crisis there is so nuanced and hard to understand, and we are afraid of saying the wrong thing. But we can — and must — always use our voices to denounce terrorism and the senseless murder of civilians.” 

Gal Gadot

The “Wonder Woman” star, 38, who served two mandatory years in the Israel Defense Forces, took to Instagram on Saturday. “I stand with Israel, you should too,” she wrote. “The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!” 

Lena Headey

The “Game of Thrones,” star, 50, posted the same message that Pugh had in her Instagram stories (also shared by Amy Schumer). Headey added, “Words I couldn’t find amongst the worlds inhumanity,” along with a heartbreak emoji.

Ron Perlman

The “Sons of Anarchy” star, 73, took to Instagram to post an image of the Star of David behind the words, “I stand with Israel.” He included the caption: “Unspeakable savagery, unprocessable sadness.”

Sarah Silverman

The comedian, 52, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “My sister and nieces and nephews are there. They’ve been protesting BIBI for months,” she said, referring to Prime Minister Netanyahu.

“Fight for a two-state solution. Israelis are Jews and Arabs and all colors. There is so much complexity to this. But make NO MISTAKE Hamas is a terror organization who’s mission statement is kill all Jews. This f – – king world breaks my heart.”

Bar Refaeli

The Israeli supermodel, 38, told a German newspaper, “My country has been attacked by terrorists who intentionally and indiscriminately murdered hundreds of citizens and kidnapped dozens, including women and children. As the mother of three young children I can’t imagine how the parents who do not know if their missing child is either dead or in the hands of a terrorist organization must be feeling at this moment. My heart is broken as I hear about more and more dead and wounded on the television that is always on. In these difficult days in which Israel will try to return its kidnapped sons and daughters, global solidarity will be especially important and appreciated.”

Jon Bernthal 

“The Punisher” star, 47, took to Instagram to post an image of Shani Louk, 23, a young German tattoo artist who was captured by Hamas and paraded around naked by armed terrorists chanting “Allahu Akbar” — Arabic for “God is greater.” It is unknown if she is still alive, but her family has said they have “hope.” Bernthal’s post was simply a photo of Louk smiling, with no caption. 

Ronen Rubinstein

The star of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” 29, who was born in Israel, posted on Instagram, “My hometown of Israel is at War with TERRORISM once again. This time, at an unprecedented level. As a kid growing up in Israel, my sisters room was used as a bomb shelter for times like these. This past weekend, 3 rockets fell in my hometown of Rehovot. My families friends’ Nephew & his 6 month old daughter were brutally murdered in front of their mother and two sons. My friends and family who have lived in Israel their entire lives have never seen these kinds of horrors before. Women are being raped & murdered on the streets. Israeli soldiers dead bodies are being dragged by vehicles. Young children, men & women are being kidnapped and tortured. Israel has no choice but to protect itself. As Americans, we would never question these actions if someone came into our land and did the atrocities that are happening in Israel. Innocent Israelis AND Palestinians are dying because of the actions taken by TERRORIST. This is a war against TERRORISM. PERIOD.”

Mark Hamill

The “Star Wars” actor, 72, posted an image of the American and Israeli flags together, and wrote, “America stands with Israel. #Always.” 

Natalie Portman

The Oscar winner, 42, posted a message on Instagram reading, “My heart is shattered for the people of Israel. Children, women and the elderly have been murdered and abducted from their own homes. I am in horror at these barbaric acts and my heart is pounding with love and prayer for the families of all affected.”

Madonna

The “Like a Prayer” singer, 65, shared a video along with a message to her followers. “Watching all of these families and especially children being herded, assaulted and murdered in the streets is Heartbreaking. Imagine if this was happening to you?? It’s Un-fathomable. Conflicts can never be resolved with violence. Unfortunately Humanity does not understand this Universal truth. Has Never Understood it,” she wrote. “We live in a World Ravaged by Hate. My heart goes out to Israel. To Families and Homes that have been destroyed. To children who are lost. To Innocent Victims who have Been Killed. To All who are Suffering or who will suffer from this conflict. I’m Praying For you. I am aware that this is the work of Hamas and there are many innocent people in Palestine who do not support this terrorist organization. This Tragic attack will only cause more suffering for everyone. Let us all Pray. For Israel. For Peace. For The World.”

Isla Fisher 

The “Wedding Crashers” actress, 47, shared photos of hostages Doron Asher, 34, and her two daughters, Raz, 5, and Aviv, 3, who were reportedly abducted by Hamas. In her caption, Fisher added: “There is no excuse for the deliberate killing and kidnapping of innocent civilians anytime anywhere ever.”

Jamie Lee Curtis

The Oscar winner, 64, reposted the images shared by Israeli-born talent manager Guy Oseary, adding “My hand in yours” alongside an emoji of the Israel flag. She did an additional post that was an image of two children with their backs to the camera, holding hands, with the caption, “In war ALL CHILDREN should be protected. @my_hand_in_yours we are dedicated to the care and treatment of critically ill or injured children @childrensla who will treat ANY child regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Pray for peace.”

Liev Schreiber 

In his Instagram stories, the “Ray Donovan” star, 56, shared a post from the organization StandWithUs — dedicated to opposing antisemitism — which included an image of the Israeli flag and read, “Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel!” Below the post, he wrote, “We stand with the people of Israel and the IDF in their fight against Hamas and other terrorist groups. We hope this war ends as soon as possible, for the sake of peace.” 

Amy Schumer

The comedian, 42, shared several posts, including the message that Pugh had in her Instagram story. Schumer also posted an image of an Israeli family killed in the attack. “Family erased,” she wrote. “There is no other side. Hamas is a terrorist organization. Stop sitting at home wondering how to be diplomatic. They want to murder all Jews.” Then she quoted the famous words from German clergyman Martin Niemöller about the rise of Nazism: “First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out — because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out — because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Nina Dobrev

The “Vampire Diaries” alum, 34, reportedly shared the same graphic that Schreiber posted, from the organization StandWithUs, that read, “Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel!” 

Max Greenfield

The “New Girl” alum, 44, shared the same graphic in his Instagram stories that Schreiber and Dobrev shared. He added the caption: “Unimaginable scene in Israel right now. As a Jew I am with you. As a human being I am with you,” adding a heart-and-praying-hands emojis. 

Kylie Jenner

The reality star, 26, originally shared the same post that Schreiber, Dobrev, and Greenfield all shared — a  photo with the Israeli flag and the caption, “Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel.” Jenner’s repost was deleted “within an hour,” according to Page Six, after she received criticism from fans. “It’s actually way worse that Kylie Jenner just deleted the Israel post,” one fan commented. “It shows a lack of knowledge and care, she just posted it to be talked about.”
