But the 2019 world champion still was not particularly pleased with his performance.

“Thepchaiya has always been a brilliant player, but he’s just playing with a little bit more confidence at the moment,” reflected Trump in the Eurosport studio.
“Three or four long balls, he was just potting straight in the middle of the pocket.
“He was creating his chances, he just wasn’t scoring maybe as heavy as he needed to.”
Thepchaiya denied total clearance by final pink – still makes 129
It’s an assessment Trump agreed with. “Yeah, by far. I felt the most confident from the get-go. I made a good break in the first frame and it settled me down.
“There’s a lot of times he played terrible shots, terrible break-offs and got away with every single one. So, it’s still not quite happening for me on the luck side.
“He missed a few, got away with them. I’ve just got to keep battling. I didn’t play my best, but it is always tough to play your best against Thepchaiya. You’re on edge and it’s just about sort of getting the job done against him.”
Trump is joined by some of the game’s biggest hitters in the quarter-final, including Neil Robertson and Mark Williams, and the 31-year-old believes the cream is constantly rising to the top in the Home Nations series this year.
“I think the standard has been brilliant in these tournaments so far this season and I’ve been pretty consistent in most of them and it’s nice to be involved again in the quarter-final stage. Hopefully, I can get past the quarter-finals for the first time.”
