‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ closes in on $1B globally as it tops box office again

It continues raking in coins.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has sat atop the box office for an entire month after hauling in another $8.9 million on Friday alone, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

The movie based on the popular Nintendo game has earned more than $458 million in the US since opening on April 5 — and is projected to hit the $1 billion global milestone on Sunday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The flick — which The Post described as “lousy” — would be just the tenth animated movie to do so.

The demonic horror movie “Evil Dead Rise,” the latest in the five-part “Evil Dead” series, ranked came in second for another week with its $3.6 million take.

The film dubbed “gory-as-hell” by The Post notably uses 1,720 gallons of fake blood to pull off the “right balance of hokey cheese … and the confident shots and special effects 2023 audiences expect.”

“Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” the movie adaptation of the 1970 Judy Blume classic starring Abby Ryder Fortson and Rachel McAdams as a mother-daughter pair navigating religion and adolescence, came in third with $2.25 million on its opening day Friday.

“Star Wars” Episode VI – Return of the Jedi,” back in theaters for its 40th anniversary, earned just over $1.75 million on its single-day rerelease across 1,364 theaters to nab fourth place.

Also cracking into the box office’s top five was “Sisu,” the action-packed Nazi-killing adventure starring Jorma Tommila, which earned $1.4 million on its opening day Friday.
