Susanne Kreher scrapes gold from Kimberley Bos at dramatic skeleton World Championships

Germany’s Susanne Kreher clinched skeleton World Championship victory in a dramatic final contest with the Netherlands’ Kimberley Bos in St. Moritz.

The 24-year-old pipped the Olympic bronze medallist to the crown by one hundredth of a second, Bos roaring back on the second day of action to threaten the lead.

The gold marks Kreher’s first victory of the season, after grabbing bronze at the European Championships in Germany earlier in the month.

“That was really close. I already noticed that my fourth run was not the best,” said the champion.

“I have already won bronze and silver at the Junior World Championships in St. Moritz.

“That it has now become gold at the big World Championships is just amazing.”

Kreher recorded the fastest first run on day one in Switzerland, leading by 0.39 seconds after both runs.

But the pressure intensified for the 2022 Junior World champion as Bos charged into the second day with the fastest times on the track, posting a 1:08.18 in her fourth run.

Canada’s Mirela Rahneva finished third in a time of 4:34.41 to make up a full podium of first-time World Championships medallists.

Olympic champion Hannah Neise finished back in 15th place.
