Switzerland clinch World Curling bronze in Ottawa

Switzerland claimed World Curling Championship bronze with a roaring 11-3 victory over Italy.

Following their surprise defeat to hosts Canada in the semi-finals, Benoit Schwarz’s rink had a point to prove in Ottawa, Canada.

After a scoreless opening end on Sunday morning, Benoit Schwarz scored two points in the second end by tapping out an Italian stone.

In the third end, Switzerland managed to steal one point from Italy’s Joel Retornaz, extending their lead to 3-0.

The Swiss continued their streak of three successive steals and went into the fifth end break with an 8-0 lead.

However, Italy managed to score two points in the sixth end, reducing the lead to 8-2. In the seventh end, Switzerland scored three more points, making it an 11-2 lead.
