‘Tampongate’ scandal mocked in cheeky way ahead of King Charles’ coronation

This celebration comes with some strings attached.

A supermarket in Scotland is poking fun at King Charles III’s upcoming coronation, highlighting the infamous “Tampongate” scandal with an unusual display.

Twitter user Lynn Blair posted a photo Thursday that shows rows of tampons next to a sign that says: “Let’s celebrate the King’s Coronation.”

“Someone in Tesco Kilmarnock remembers the story,” Blair joked in a comment.

The Post has reached out to Tesco for comment.

The sign is referring to the notorious 1989 exchange between Charles and Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles.

The pair were engaged in an affair at the time. Charles was married to Princess Diana from 1981 until their separation in 1992.

On the playful phone call, Charles tells Camilla, “I’ll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!”

“What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers?” Camilla cheekily responded. “Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.”

“Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck!” Charles replied with a laugh.

The pair then joked about Charles turning into an entire box of tampons and being “chucked down the lavatory.”

The full transcript of the audio was published in 1993, after Charles and Diana had separated, and re-created last year on “The Crown.”

The couple’s divorce was finalized in 1996, and Diana died the following year.

The pair will be crowned together at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6.

Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli and Lionel Richie are set to perform at the festivities.

The palace announced last week that Prince Harry will be attending the ceremony — but without his wife, Meghan Markle.

Harry may be met with a frosty reception from the royal family, considering the release of his tell-all memoir, “Spare,” in January and the high-profile Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan” last fall.
