Ted Cruz encourages House to consider impeaching President Biden
Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz is urging the House to consider impeaching President Biden following the bombshell IRS whistleblower testimony that alleged the Justice Department waged a coverup in the tax fraud investigation of first son Hunter Biden.
Cruz highlighted a claim from the stunning closed-door testimony released Thursday that investigators found a WhatsApp message in which Hunter, 53, invoked his father in an apparent attempt to coerce money from a Chinese business associate.
“Look, this WhatsApp is direct evidence of Joe Biden abusing his government power to enrich his son, and, assuming 10% for the big guy, to enrich himself,” Cruz, 52, said on his podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz.”
Cruz insisted that “right now” is the time for the investigation into the scandal-scarred first son to transform into an impeachment effort against the 80-year-old commander-in-chief.
Both IRS whistleblowers alleged that key officials in the Biden Justice Department hamstrung their own probe into Hunter Biden — and prevented any meaningful investigation into Joe Biden.
This includes allegations that Assistant US Attorney Lesley Wolf scuttled important lines of questioning related to Joe Biden, insisting there was “no specific criminality.”
The elder Biden has repeatedly claimed that he never spoke with his son about his overseas business dealings — but the damning text message casts fresh doubt on the president’s claims.
“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight,” Hunter Biden wrote to Harvest Fund Management director Henry Zhao.
“And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.”
One of the whistleblowers has been identified as IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley. The second whistleblower has remained anonymous.
Cruz said the WhatsApp message “directly ties Joe Biden to the millions of dollars coming from communist China” but the DOJ and Attorney General Merrick Garland prevented any probe into the threatening message.
“Of course the House needs to investigate it, but the stunning thing is what the IRS whistleblower says is [Department of Justice], Merrick Garland prevented an investigation even into this message,” the Texas senator said.
“Now, it is possible Hunter Biden was lying, it’s possible Joe Biden wasn’t next to him,” Cruz added.
“We don’t know if it’s true or not. Why? Because, according to the whistleblower, they didn’t investigate, and they were prohibited from investigating. They were prevented from even asking the question.”
Garland has heartily rejected allegations that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss, the point person in the Hunter Biden inquiry, was handicapped by top brass at the DOJ.
Weiss also penned a letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) in early June claiming that he had “ultimate authority” in the Hunter Biden inquiry while downplaying concerns of political interference.
“If you had a single Democrat who gave a flying flip about the rule of law, we would have a hearing right now with Merrick Garland in front of us, under oath, asking about this WhatsApp,” Cruz, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said.
Court documents revealed last week that Hunter Biden reached a plea agreement with Weiss to plead guilty to two counts of failing to pay his income taxes.
He will also enter a pretrial diversion agreement for his alleged illegal possession of a firearm. A court hearing in the matter has been scheduled for July 26.
Hunter Biden’s attorney maintained that the first son’s activities are not connected to the Biden family.
“Any verifiable words or actions of my client, in the midst of a horrible addiction, are solely his own and have no connection to anyone in his family,” Chris Clark, the attorney, said.
The New York Post contacted the White House for comment.
Multiple other Republicans in the House are also pushing for the impeachment of President Biden. This includes Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who want to impeach over immigration.
Boebert announced a push to advance her privilege resolution to impeach the president on immigration last week.
