Tennessee inmates break out of jail through ceiling skylight

Two Tennessee inmates with a history of running from the law were recaptured just hours after they busted out of a county jail this week.

Ronnie Sharp, 48, and Joshua Harris, 40, pried open the ceiling of their Henry County Jail cell, crawled through a skylight on the roof and ran off the prison grounds Monday, the sheriff’s office said.

Police then believe the duo stole an indiscreet 2006 white Chevy pickup to continue their short-lived escape.

The pair — described during their time on the run as “armed and dangerous” — were immediately placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted list.

But Harris didn’t make it far before he was tracked down.

He was found Monday just 8 miles from the jail after a citizen reported spotting him in the area, police said.

Sharp, however, remained on the lam until the following day when he was discovered in a neighboring county just 30 miles away.

Union City police captured the fugitive “after a brief foot chase” and booked him in their jail overnight before bringing him back to Henry County on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the TBI said that the stolen truck was found ditched in Kentucky, where Sharp last lived before he was locked up in Tennessee.

Police said the duo pried open their cell ceiling and crawled out a skylight.

Police said Sharp is currently in jail on numerous pending charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, assault on an officer, evading arrest, theft of property and burglary.

In July of last year, Sharp was involved in several high-speed pursuits involving multiple stolen vehicles over the course of 11 days while evading an arrest warrant for failure to appear in court, according to the Murray Ledger and Times.

He was finally arrested after allegedly breaking into a Tennessee house with the homeowner and his children were home.

During a physical struggle, Sharp is accused of biting the homeowner before the man held the fugitive in a chokehold.

At the time he went missing, he was wanted in Kentucky for a slew of charges, including possession of meth, automobile theft, reckless driving, receiving stolen property and many more.

Harris is serving time for violation of sentence but also has a history of evading arrest, theft of property and burglary, police said.
