Teri Copley denies cheating on John Stamos with Tony Danza
In his explosive memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” John Stamos claims that his ex girlfriend Teri Copley cheated on him with Tony Danza.
But according to Copley, that’s not true.
“She’s everything I’m looking for in a woman,” Stamos, 60, wrote in an excerpt published by Entertainment Weekly. “I’m dumbstruck and goofy in love. I could spend the rest of my life with her. Who knows if I’ll ever find love again? Why not take a chance?”
According to Stamos, a year into their relationship in the ’80s, he had been traveling and had trouble getting in touch with Copley. He drove to her house, where he saw a black 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster in the driveway.
“The blinds are closed, but the door is slightly open,” Stamos recalled in his book. “I take a peek inside and see four feet protruding from the shabby-chic, floral-print duvet that once kept me warm. My Tiny Dancer is in bed with Mr. Porsche Speedster.”
Stamos didn’t realize that “Mr. Porsche Speedster” was Tony Danza at the time.
“At first I was like, ‘I’m going to kick his…’ I didn’t know it was [Danza] yet. I see his abs. I’m like, ‘Maybe not. F – – k it.’ And I ran,” Stamos wrote. “But I remember running down the driveway with tears streaming down my face and I didn’t want anyone to see me.”
Copley, 62, did not deny that this incident happened, but she claims it was not cheating, because according to her, she and Stamos had already broken up.
“I wondered, ‘What was John doing there?’ because we had broken up,” she told People in an interview published on Monday. “He just looked at me and shook his head and walked away.”
“The pain is so overwhelming,” Stamos told People. “Looking back, it’s like, probably, she wasn’t the right girl for me. So, seeing him, realizing it was him and stuff, it was hard . . . I mean, it wasn’t right to cheat on me, but I was too immature; I wasn’t a man. I didn’t become a man for a long time and I think she was . . . I don’t know. I was broken.”
Even though Copley claims that she didn’t cheat on Stamos, he claims that he felt the need to include the alleged event in his memoir, because it’s relatable.
“When people are cheated on, they ‘make a list,’ ” Stamos told People. “It’s like, ‘Oh, she left me because I don’t have enough money,’ or ‘I’m not good-looking,’ or this and that. And then you look at me and I go, ‘Well, he had all those things.’ People are s – – tty. And it’s life.”
Stamos has made several other explosive claims in his book, including the fact that he “hated” Rebecca Romijn after their divorce. He also alleged that he was sexually assaulted as a child.
Stamos was married to Romijn from 1998 to 2005. He married his current wife, Caitlin McHugh, 37, in 2018, and together they are parents of son Billy, 5.
Billy is named after Stamos’ father, the late restaurateur Bill Stamos.
“My dad was a big influence on me in many things,” Stamos told The Post in 2021. “My dad had restaurants, and he would treat the busboy in the backroom washing dishes the exact same way he would treat his best customer. I sort of try to keep that.”
“If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir” hits bookstores Tuesday, Oct. 24.
