Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sends more migrants to Philadelphia

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent another group of asylum seekers to Philadelphia on Friday, arguing that the move highlighted President Biden’s inability to manage immigration.

Two buses carrying roughly 80 people, including women and young children, pulled into the city’s 30th Street Station and were met by relief groups, according to NBC 10.

The station reported that the migrants were woefully underdressed for Philadelphia’s cold weather, with many arriving in T-shirts before being given blankets.

The new arrivals hailed from a range of countries, including Nicaragua, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

Abbott has been sending migrants to Democratic-led cities — including New York, Washington, DC and Chicago — to call attention to the wave of undocumented immigrants pouring into the country.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney has ripped Abbott’s actions as political theater.

Of the latest convoy, he said it was “downright irresponsible and callous to do this unannounced and without coordination, showing blatant disregard for the sanctity of human lives,” according to NBC.

The migrants will be taken to shelters and given food before moving on to their final destinations, according to local officials.

Erika Nunez, executive director of the Juntos community organization, said Philadelphia and other cities can accommodate the migrants.

“I think part of it is he is expecting cities to fail, and I think there’s like the myth of scarcity,” she told NBC of Abbott’s campaign. “That we don’t have enough resources to go around to welcome immigrant communities — and that’s actually just not true.”

Some government officials have raised concerns over largely unchecked immigration into the US, noting that dozens of entrants have been detained after popping up on terror watch lists.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign during a visit to the Texas border with Mexico on Tuesday.

There have been roughly 2.4 million crossings at the southern border recorded over the 12 months ending Sept. 30, the highest on record.
