Texas mall shooter caught on dash cam opening fire on shoppers
Disturbing dashcam footage captured the terrifying moment the alleged gunman who killed eight people at a Texas mall casually got out of his car and opened fire on shoppers.
The clip shows a gray vehicle pull up near an entrance to the massive Allen Premium Outlets and park shortly after 3:30 p.m.
A person, dressed in all black, steps out from the driver’s seat with a gun and immediately begins shooting at people outside of the shops from behind the car door, video shows.
Several rounds of gunfire can be heard in the clip. The driver of a black pickup truck, realizing what is happening, screeches his tires as he tries to speed in reverse away from the shooter’s car.
The driver, whose camera caught the footage, can be seen reversing their vehicle away from the scene as gunfire continues.
As the vehicle backs away, the shooter can be seen sauntering towards the mall as gunfire continues.
The gunman, who has not yet been identified, killed eight people and wounded seven others, before he was shot and killed by police, authorities said on Saturday night.
According to police, an Allen police officer was at the mall responding to an unrelated call when he heard gunshots.
The officer ran towards the gunshots, confronted the gunman and “neutralized the threat,” Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey told reporters at a press briefing.
Other footage taken by local TV shows several apparent victims bodies lying under white sheets in the area near an H&M store where the gunman started firing.
Police believe that the gunman acted alone. His motive remains unclear and he has not been publicly identified.
Seven people, including the gunman, were found dead at the scene, Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said a press briefing. Responders took another nine victims to an area hospital, two of which succumbed to their injuries.
Three victims are in critical surgery and four others are stable, he said.
Dallas-based Medical City Health Care treated eight victims from the shooting, ranging in age from 5 years old to 61, CNN reported.
The ages of the victims who died at the scene and who died at the hospital have not been released.
