Texas teen Madison Lewis fighting for her life after gas fire burned 90% of her body dies

A Texas teen who suffered burns to 90 percent of her body after a horrifying gas fire over Christmas break has died, according to a family member.

Ericca Hammond, the mother of 17-year-old Madison Lewis, announced her daughter’s death Saturday night, two weeks after the teen was severely burned when a boy threw a gasoline-filled pan onto a fire, Fox 4 reported.

Lewis, a senior at Jacksboro High School, was with her friends around a burn barrel when another teen threw the pan with gasoline on it inside.

The mother said she initially thought someone had thrown a cup, but then the barrel “exploded and just went in her [daughter’s] direction.”

Lewis remained unresponsive following the incident and needed at least four surgeries before she was placed in a medically induced coma at a Dallas hospital.

“There’s nothing in the world more that I want and need than for my baby girl to be okay and to live a life,” Hammond told reporters at the hospital.
