‘The Beekeeper’ buzzes to No. 1 on opening night in the box office
It was the buzz of the box office.
“The Beekeeper” was No. 1 in theaters on its opening night Friday, raking in $6.765 million dollars, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
The Washington Post said the action thriller, starring Jason Statham, has “more zzzzz than bzzzz.”
The rom-com “Anyone But You,” which was in third place last week, moved up a notch to second, with $2.1 million in sales.
The film stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, who The Hollywood Reporter said “can’t fake the fizz” in the flick, which is based on William Shakespeare’s play “Much Ado About Nothing.”
Things soured for “Wonka,” which dropped to third, with earnings of $1.8 million.
Its star, Timothée Chalamet, was nominated at Jan. 7th’s Golden Globes for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, but lost to Paul Giamatti, who celebrated his win by going to In-N-Out in Westwood, Calif. to eat a burger and fries.
The supernatural horror film “Night Swim,” which was No. 1 last week, floated down to fourth, with a $1.16 million-dollar take.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” fell to fifth, taking in $1.15 million.
