‘The Little Mermaid’ makes a big splash at the box office

“The Little Mermaid” swam to the top of the box office on its opening night.

Disney’s live-action adaption of the 1989 movie took home $48.3 million on Friday, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

It is expected to enjoy a $104 million three-day weekend, according to Deadline.

The Post called the flick, produced in part by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “more lifeless than far better two-dimensional painted drawings.”

“Fast X,” which was in the No. 1 spot last Friday, slowed down to second, with $6.3 million in sales.

The 11-title “Fast and Furious” franchise already sped past $7 billion in the global box office.

It is the fifth movie series to do so, and now holds the title of No. 5 franchise of all time in earnings.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″ was in third place, with a $5.4 million take. It will be available to stream on Disney+, but the platform has not yet announced a release date.

Comedy-adventure “The Machine,” starring standup comedian Bert Kreischer, came in fourth, pulling in just over $3 million.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which was in third last week, landed in fifth, with $1.65 million in sales.
