‘The Nun II’ creeps its way back into top box office slot
“The Nun II” creeped its way back up to the top slot at the box office on Friday.
The gothic supernatural horror film — which stars Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons, who all return from the first “Nun” film — brought in $2.4 million on Friday, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
“The Nun II” is the ninth installment in the “The Conjuring” franchise, the highest grossing horror franchise of all time.
Collider called the latest flick “an effective, gory, and impressively scary addition to the “Conjuring universe” that also stands as a solidly on its own.
“A Haunting in Venice,” based on the 1969 Agatha Christie novel, was bumped down a notch to the No. 2 spot, bringing home $1.7 million.
The Denzel Washington-led action thriller “The Equalizer 3” maintained its third-place slot at the box office and took in $1.35 million.
The star-studded biographical comedy “Dumb Money” — based on amateur investor Keith Gill, who urged Reddit users to invest in GameStop, subsequently driving its value up 1,700% — made it to the top five for the first time since its Sept. 15 release. It took in $985,000.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film about the Wall Street shake-up stars Paul Dano, Shailene Woodley, Seth Rogan, Pete Davidson and America Ferrera.
The Post called “Dumb Money” a “bore,” filled with “two hours of drudgery and rattled-off money lingo that acts like it’s ‘All The President’s Men’ when it’s really a bargain-bin ‘Social Network.’”
Summer blockbuster “Barbie” held on to the fifth place slot with an $850 million take.
