‘The synapses are not firing as quickly’

Presidential hopeful Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) was taken aback by President Biden’s bizarre statement during a whirlwind press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam over the weekend where the 80-year-old president told reporters “I’m going to go to bed.”

“Well TMI — too much information number one. Number two, the synapses are not firing as quickly as we need them to be firing,” Scott said on Fox News Monday while shaking his head.

Biden’s revealing quip about taking a snooze came in response to a question about why he hasn’t spoken to Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

“I tell you what, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go to bed,” Biden joked at the time.

Scott was not amused at the snoozefest.

“What we saw there was just embarrassing for the county,” Scott added. “I liken it again to the moments we’ve seen whether it’s tripping … we need a president who’s prepared to lead.”

Biden’s jarring presser came on the heels of the multi-day Group of 20 summit in New Delhi, India where he took advantage of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s and Xi’s absences.

The president took a handful of questions during the international press event and dusted off some unique one-liners.

“The Indian looks at John Wayne and points to the Union soldier and says, ‘He’s a lying, dog-faced pony soldier!’” Biden replied at one point to a question about climate change.

“Well, there’s a lot of lying, dog-faced pony soldiers out there about global warming,” he added.

Conservative detractors pummeled Biden over the spectacle.

Scott contended that Biden’s “incompetence” has fueled his “dereliction of duty,” and said it’s “time for fresh new, strong leadership.”

“What we see on display time and time again is a president who seems to be fumbling the ball too close to the goal line,” Scott added.

Biden’s presser appeared to be abruptly cut short by an aide who interrupted and announced it was over while the president was speaking mid-sentence.

Other Republicans hammered Biden over the ordeal as well.

“Biden is compromised, mentally weak, and too incompetent to run America,” Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) said in a statement.

Mills also zinged Biden for stressing that his G20 outing was not part of an effort to contain China.

“He made numerous comments about wanting China to have a strong economy, not supporting any de-coupling of American reliance, and building railways abroad to advance other nations economically,” Mills added.

Biden’s pitstop in Vietnam underscored his administration’s view that Hanoi is becoming an increasingly valuable US ally in Asia amid bitter tensions with China.

On Monday, Biden arrived in Alaska where he observed the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

Scott is polling in a distant seventh place nationally amongst the 2024 GOP field in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate of polling.

Former President Donald Trump is far ahead on the Republican side, while Biden has a toehold on the primary to be the Democrats’ party standard bearer.
