Theatergoers thirsty for sci-fi desert sequel ‘Dune: Part Two’

Moviegoers were thirsty for this sci-fi desert sequel.

“Dune: Part Two” landed in first place in the box office on its opening day, with a solid $32.2 million in sales, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

The Post called the film, which is the second of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel “Dune” by Frank Herbert, a “sci-fi triumph that’s better than the first.”

The sequel to the 2021 original stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem in reprising roles and welcomes Christopher Walken, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh to its cast.

Remaining in second was “Bob Marley: One Love,” which was released on Valentine’s Day, with earnings of $1.92 million.

“Ordinary Angels” stayed in third, with a just-over-$1 million-dollar take.

The faith-based drama, which stars Hilary Swank as a real-life hairdresser who helped a widower whose daughter needed a liver transplant, “magnifies biblical truths without preachiness,” said The Christian Post.

Another spiritual release, “The Chosen: S4 Episodes 7-8″ came in fourth, bringing home $970,610.

The episodes from the fourth season of the Christian television series, which is centered around the life and ministry of Jesus, are being shown in theaters prior to their TV debuts.

The suspense thriller “Madame Web,” which was in fourth place last week, fell to fifth, taking in $800,000.

The movie, which stars Dakota Johnson as a clairvoyant paramedic who helps Spider-Man, originally had the lowest opening for any film in the Sony “Spider-Man” franchise.

This week, it finally surpassed the $39 million opening weekend of “Morbius,” a 2022 Sony Spider-Man Universe flick that starred Jared Leto as a vampire, in its third weekend at the domestic box office.
