Thieves steal 133 tons of chicken from Cuban plant to buy laptops, appliances

They’ve gone cluckwild.

A 30-person crew allegedly stole 133 tons of chicken from a state-run facility in Cuba and hawked it on the street to buy tech and appliances.

The “fowl” play was committed by shift bosses, IT workers and security guards at the Havana plant, according to a state broadcast on Friday.

Authorities didn’t say exactly when the 1,660 boxes of meat flew the coop but suspect it happened between midnight and 2 a.m. on a day when the temperature in the cold facility fluctuated.

Surveillance footage captured trucks transporting the chicken off the site.

The perps took to the streets to sell the chicken and used the money to buy refrigerators, laptops, televisions and air conditioners.

The popular poultry is among the rationed items in the Communist country and has been harder to come by in recent years. Cuba is undergoing a years-long economic crisis that has brought food, medicine and fuel shortages.

The loot was no chicken feed — it was equivalent to an entire month’s ration of chicken for a medium-sized province, according to Rigoberto Mustelier, director of government food distributor COPMAR.

Large-scale thefts are rare on the Caribbean island but crime has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The suspects, which included others not related to the facility, could face as many as 20 years in prison.
