‘Thin-skinned’ Meghan Markle ‘could never be a politician’: royal expert
Meghan Markle is far too “thin-skinned” to be a successful politician, a royal expert has claimed.
Royal biographer Angela Levin suggests that a career in politics for the Duchess of Sussex, 42, is too far-fetched since she’s “clinging” on to her royal title “for dear life.”
“Meghan Markle could never really be a politician,” Levin told Sky News Australia. “She’s got very, very thin skin, and she also would have to lose her titles as I believe Harry would as well.”
“She’s clinging onto them for dear life, so I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that she’d ever get anything in parliament.”
“It’s so ludicrous to think that she could just go in at a high level. I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that she’d ever get into parliament,” she added.
The “Suits” alum has long been rumored to have been eyeing a career in politics, with unconfirmed reports suggesting she’s been forging connections with top Democrats since quitting royal life in 2020.
President Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, reportedly “endorsed” Markle as a woman she would back for the White House.
Last week, Markle was linked with the vacant Senate hot seat following the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has landed on Democratic strategist Laphonza Butler on an interim basis while he searches for a permanent fixture.
Sources told the Daily Mail within minutes of Feinstein’s death, phones “lit up” with speculation that Markle might look to be appointed to fill the seat.
Yet despite Markle’s friendship with big-time Dems like Oprah Winfrey and the Kennedy family, there’s little chance of a vault to the Capitol.
“Meghan is definitely a long shot, but in the craziness that is US politics these days it’s not an impossibility,” a major Democratic donor who’s close to Newsom told the news outlet. “Crazier things have happened.”
Newsom reportedly interviewed the duchess for a Senator’s spot in Oct. 2020, when he had to replace then-Sen. Kamala Harris after she was chosen by Biden to run with him against Donald Trump.
Although she and husband Prince Harry met virtually with the California Gov., he ultimately landed on another candidate for the job.
Markle’s rumored desire to dive into politics isn’t unheard of, as actors including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan tried their hand at politics in the past.
The bodybuilder, 76, served as the 38th governor of California from 2003 to 2011, and Reagan starred in several Tinseltown features in the 1930s before becoming the 40th US president.
