Three hurt at Disneyland when lamppost topples over on Main Street USA

Three parkgoers were injured at Disneyland on Monday morning when a lamppost came tumbling down on Main Street USA, according to reports.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph at the popular California theme park in Anaheim were blamed for the freak mishap, which occurred just before 8:30 a.m. and left an elderly woman hospitalized with a head injury, the Orange County Register reported.

Two other people were also hurt and were treated at the scene for lesser injuries, Anaheim Fire Department spokesman Sgt. John McClintock told the news outlet.

One of the injured guests treated at the scene was later spotted sitting on a park bench with a bandaged head, Disney blog WDW News Today said.

The lamppost, which sat in a flower bed around the Disneyland flagpole, has been used to provide stage lighting for parades and other events along Main Street.

The theme park remained open, although visitors were temporarily steered away from the scene, which was near Town Square and not far from the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln opera house, the Register said.

Disneyland, which opened in 1955 and pre-dates Florida’s Disney World by 16 years, has been the site of more serious incidents in the past year, including several suicides, according to reports.

Last week, a 24-year-old man jumped to his death from a parking garage at the park.

Jonah Alexander Edwards leaped from the six-floor, 5,000-spot Pixar Pals parking structure Wednesday around 9:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the third suicide at the theme park since last December and the sixth since 2010.
