Tiger Woods confirms PNC Championship appearance alongside son Charlie as comeback nears

Tiger Woods has announced he will play in this year’s PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie as he prepares to make his latest comeback to professional golf.

The 47-year-old has been out of action since he withdrew from the third round of the Masters in April with plantar fasciitis before he underwent surgery on his right ankle.

His appearance in the parent-child tournament will be his fourth with Charlie and Woods admitted it is a “special” event.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all year,” Woods said.

“Competing together, against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

Woods has struggled to put 72 holes together in tournament conditions since his career-threatening car crash in February of 2021.

He made the cut at this year’s Masters but was seen limping badly and subsequently pulled out, citing a return of his plantar fasciitis.

Woods then had surgery to fuse two bones in his right ankle together in the hope it would make it easier to walk.

There was initial optimism he could return to feature in The Open at Hoylake, where he lifted the Claret Jug in 2006, but it wasn’t to be.

He will then tee it up with Charlie at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando from December 14 to 17 in the PNC Championship.

The tournament is played over 36 holes and is for major winners or Players Championship winners.

The Woodses came seventh on their debut in 2020, before finishing second behind the duo of John Daly and John Daly II in 2021, and eighth last year.

It’s an event run by the PGA Tour Champions, which means Woods is allowed to use a buggy.
