Tiger Woods to miss US Open due to ankle surgery as fitness struggles continue for 15-time major winner

Tiger Woods will miss the US Open next month as he continues to recover from ankle surgery.

The 47-year-old will not be fit in time for the tournament in Los Angeles, and it marks the second consecutive major he has missed this season.

Woods withdrew from the Masters at the third-round stage as he suffered from plantar fasciitis, and he has since undergone ankle surgery.

The USGA has announced that Woods, who has 15 majors to his name, will not be taking part in the US Open.

Woods is a three-time winner of the US Open, which this year runs from June 15-18 at the Los Angeles Country Club in California.

One potential comeback date for Woods could be the Open at Royal Liverpool, held this July in Britain. In 2006, the Royal Liverpool was the scene of his third Open victory.

This is not the first time Woods has suffered from fitness problems of late.

As well as a longstanding back problem, Woods was also at risk of having his leg amputated in 2021 when he was involved in a serious car accident at the start of that year.
