Tom Cruise starstruck by ‘goddess’ Janet Jackson: ‘She’s a legend’
Tom Cruise couldn’t help but gush over his friendship with none other than Janet Jackson, calling the singer a “goddess.”
While attending the “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” world premiere in Rome on Monday, the “Top Gun” star said he spent his day off in May seeing Jackson perform live.
“That was a moment, yeah, that was my night off. That was my last break,” Cruise told Entertainment Tonight. “I just want to tell you to go see Janet.”
“I’m right in there, yeah, come on! It’s Janet, she’s a legend,” the 3-time Golden Globe winner added.
After the actor attended Jackson’s show last month, the singer took to Instagram to share a snap with Cruise.
In the accompanying caption, the “Come On Get Up” hitmaker revealed her affectionate nickname for the “Oblivion” actor.
“T, it was so good seeing you and nice spending some time together,” she captioned the May 13 post.
And when asked about her nickname for him, the 60-year-old told ET, “Yeah she calls me T. Look, she can call me whatever she wants. She’s Janet Jackson! She’s a goddess. She is a goddess.”
At the premiere, Cruise looked sleek in a blue suit layered over a matching vest.
He accessorized with sunglasses and black dress shoes while letting his tousled hair flow in the Italian breeze.
Speaking about the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, Cruise admitted that he still pinches himself “every day” over its success.
“I do pinch myself every day. I don’t take anything for granted,” he told the outlet. “I remember being 18 years old, making ‘Taps’, and I remember being four years old and thinking I want to make movies, and I want to travel the world, and now here we are in Rome.”
“It’s something that I am constantly [feeling like], ‘This is so out of body’ and ‘What is happening? This is wild’… I just feel very privileged,” he added.
Production of the two-part “Mission: Impossible” finale, which was shot back-to-back, had been put on pause during the pandemic.
“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” hits theaters in the US on July 12.
Its sequel, “Dead Reckoning Part Two,” is set to premiere on June 28, 2024.
