Tom Daley and Adam Peaty named in Team GB squad for World Aquatics Championships as Paris 2024 countdown continues

Tom Daley and Adam Peaty have been named in the Team GB squad for the World Aquatics Championships, which take place in February in Qatar.

This will mark the end of Daley’s two-year absence from diving for Great Britain, since he won gold in the 10m platform event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were held in 2021.

The 29-year-old made his comeback in the pool after winning gold at the British National Diving Cup last week, alongside team-mate Noah Williams.

He made his Team GB return at a World Cup event two months ago in Germany, and now has his sights set on a third consecutive 100m Olympic title at Paris 2024.

As for Daley, he will be aiming to secure what would be a British-record fifth appearance at the Olympic Games as a diver, with the World Aquatics Championships the latest milestone.

In total Daley has won 18 medals across the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, which includes nine golds. He first appeared at the Olympics aged just 14 at Beijing 2008.

Speaking in August on his official YouTube channel, he said: “Paris 2024 is definitely a goal.

“I’m not ready to be done and I don’t think I was ready to be done and hang up my trunks and move on with that part of my life, and especially when my son Robbie said ‘Papa, I want to see you dive at the Olympics’.”

Among the other stand-out names is two-time 2023 World Championships medallist Matt Richards, who takes his place alongside the Olympic champion duo of Tom Dean and Duncan Scott.

Daley’s 10m synchronised gold partner Lee is also in diving squad, with Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, Grace Reid and Jack Laugher.

The championships serve a wider purpose as qualification for Paris 2024, with three spots available in the following diving events: 10m Synchro, women’s 3m Springboard and men’s 3m Springboard.

Meanwhile, those in the swimming squad are targeting relay team quota places.

The two squads are below:

GB Swimming squad: Freya Colbert, Lauren Cox, Kathleen Dawson, Tom Dean, Luke Greenbank, Medi Harris, Lucy Hope, Anna Hopkin, Joe Litchfield, Max Litchfield, Jack McMillan, Adam Peaty, Ben Proud, Matthew Richards, Duncan Scott, Laura Stephens, Jacob Whittle, James Wilby, Brodie Williams, Abbie Wood.

GB Diving squad: Tom Daley, Dan Goodfellow, Anthony Harding, Yasmin Harper, Ross Haslam, Kyle Kothari, Jack Laugher, Matty Lee, Scarlett Mew Jensen, Grace Reid, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, Lois Toulson, Noah Williams.

The World Aquatics Championships begin on February 11 and conclude seven days later.

The Olympic Games will return with Paris 2024, live on Eurosport and discovery+, the Eurosport app and at eurosport.com
