Tom Hanks’ ‘wildly ambitious’ novel to be released next year
Soon Tom Hanks will be able to add novelist to his resume.
The Oscar winner’s debut novel will be released in May 2023, The Guardian reported.
Hanks’ “wildly ambitious” book — “The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece” — will cover 80 years and lead to the opening of a movie, according to the publication.
The “colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film” will feature characters such as a troubled soldier, a young child, eccentric director, a pompous film star and a production assistant.
“Movie making is very hard work over a very long period of time that consists of so many moments of joy slapped up against an equal number of feelings of self-loathing,” said the 66-year-old “Forrest Gump” actor.
“It is the greatest job in the world and the most confounding of labors that I know of.”
The Post has reached out to Hanks and his publisher, Penguin Random House, for comment.
“[It’s] a publisher’s dream come true,” Ailah Ahmed, publishing director at Hutchinson Heinemann, a UK Penguin Random House imprint, told The Guardian.
“The fact that he has written an epic about ordinary people in a rather extraordinary world, and one that is thoughtful, poignant and hugely entertaining is icing on the cake.”
The actor quoted “Hamlet” and said that he hopes his debut novel “captures as much of ‘the accidental judgements and casual slaughter’ that go into a motion picture’s dictum.”
Hanks wrote a collection of short stories, “Uncommon Type,” that focused on his collection of vintage typewriters and was released in 2017. It sold 234,000 copies.
