Tom Pidcock goes off-road, bunny hops onto rocks BUT keeps time trial bike up: ‘That was mint!’
Tom Pidcock showed some masterful bike-handling during the final-stage time trial at the Volta ao Algarve.
The 23-year-old Ineos Grenadiers cyclist drew on all his expertise in cyclo-cross to remain upright after a hair-raising moment on the 24.4km circuit in Lagoa.
Pidcock appeared to approach a roundabout too quickly, which sent him careering towards a rockface. However, showing all his multi-discipline biking nous, Pidcock bunny hopped onto the rocks, navigated his way off them and rode off.

This is how Rob Hatch and Adam Blythe called it on Eurosport’s commentary.
“Now then, what has happened here?” began Hatch.
“He has gone too hot around the roundabout,” said Blythe. “He’s coming in hot, he’s in coming hot, woooah!” added Blythe as Pidcock approached the rockface.
“Dear, oh dear, oh dear,” interjected Hatch. “Pidcock going cyclo-cross on the time trial bike. And still keeping it upright.”
“Brilliant – I take my hat off to him,” added Blythe. “That was mint! That’s the best thing I have seen. He jumped, bunny hopped onto the rocks to save himself. So [he] took off, flew onto the rocks and still managed to keep it up.”
Pidcock had come into the final day with a five-second advantage over Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal – Quick Step) and a seven-second lead over Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) in the general classification.
