Tottenham plan Luis Enrique talks, Vincent Kompany also on shortlist to become Spurs’ next head coach – Paper Round
Spurs’ Luis Enrique talks
Tottenham are looking to speak with Luis Enrique as they continue their search for a new head coach, the Telegraph reports. Chelsea have already interviewed the former Barcelona boss, meaning Spurs could well look to rival their London rivals by speaking with the Spaniard as early as this week. It is not clear where Luis Enrique sits within Spurs’ preferred list of candidates, but they are also set to talk with another Chelsea target.

“Former Spain and Barcelona manager Enrique is keen on resuming his coaching career in England and is known to be keen on the Chelsea post, with reports in Spain claiming he had hoped to be offered the chance to start work immediately at Stamford Bridge.”

Kompany for company
Luis Enrique is joined on Spurs’ list by Burnley boss and former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, the Mail reports. With Burnley securing an immediate return to the Premier League under Kompany’s watch, the Belgian has turned heads, although some figures at Spurs are worried about his lack of experience at managerial level.
“The clubs head of coaching methodology Simon Davies already has a pre-existing relationship with Kompany having worked with the coach at Anderlecht.
“Spurs have watched Mikel Arteta, who had no management experience, turn Arsenal into title contenders and believe they could also benefit from a similar appointment.”

Barca confident on Gundogan
Barcelona are confident of signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer on a free contract, The Times reports. With the 32-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, it appears increasingly likely that the German will seek a move elsewhere, with Barca the most likely destination.
“It is understood that Barcelona have offered Gundogan a two-year contract, with the option of a further year, which is worth more than the shorter deal that City have put forward.”

Laporte also leaving?
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will allow Aymeric Laporte to leave the club this summer if he would like to pursue a challenge elsewhere, the Mail reports. The defender has fallen out of favour under Guardiola this season, making just seven Premier League starts, and just twice in all competitions since February.
“It has left Laporte, who cost £57million from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, frustrated by a lack of game time and City do not want unhappy players within the squad.
“That stance was taken with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling last summer, when the trio were allowed to join Arsenal and Chelsea after presenting acceptable offers.”
